CLAYPSIDRA
Video installation for Violeta Cruz’s Claypsidra, for percussion, fountain and electronics
This piece is about physical matter, space and the finite dimensions of nature. Claypsidra is a duo for percussion and water; a sonic sculpture gives water a scenic role. Its undulating energy provides suppleness to the performance. Its fluidity becomes audible as musical continuity. The water’s volume, the physical space it fills, determines the duration of the fountain’s sonic life, therefore the duration of the whole piece. The changing relation between the percussion and the fountain suggests different ways to listen to this environment. Percussion instruments -wood, metal and clay- complete the sonic material palette.
